Senior Java Developer

The role

Our OrderFlow platform is used by leading retailers and logistics providers, and is a mission critical part of their infrastructure.  You will be working very closely with our customers, taking the lead on individual projects.

Combined with the passion for delivering the highest level of customer service, you will need exceptional technical skills. The technologies we use include Java with Spring and Hibernate, Groovy, Linux and MySQL.

Also very important is your attention to detail as well as great teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written.

This role will particularly suit an allrounder who has a strong work ethic and enjoys a varied role that encompasses all aspects of software development and delivery. Your intellectual prowess and problem solving skills will be important. Our product is highly sophisticated, and the problems you will be asked to solve will be at times be challenging.

The development team is based at our office in Woodbridge, Suffolk in the UK, conveniently located between the train station and the town centre. The role is based in our Woodbridge office for two days every week, working from home for the remaining three days a week..

Over the past decade we have established OrderFlow as one of the UK’s leading warehouse management and order processing platforms, used by large e-commerce businesses and 3rd party fulfilment houses. We punch above our weight with some sizeable, well-known customers, including Axell Logistics, Bonmarché, EWM, Peacocks, The Protein WorksProFS and Social Imprints.

After ten years of development, our ‘OrderFlow’ warehouse management system is now a well-established, highly configurable enterprise platform that continues to mature. The business has entered a period of steady growth, our software regularly processes thousands of orders daily, including over 100,000 over the ‘Black Friday’ weekend alone.

We pride ourselves on the personalised service we offer our customers and the speed with which respond to their requests.

Your profile

We are looking for:

  • Some experience working in a structured commercial software development environment.
  • A passion for developing high quality software and learning new skills.
  • A willingness to take responsibility solving practical problems that in a way that delights our customers.
  • A desire to engage with end-users and customer technical teams to deliver practical results.
  • Excellent intellectual ability and problem solving skills, with an ability to handle complex abstract concepts.
  • A graduate, preferably 2.1 or above in subjects demonstrating an aptitude for software development.

You must have:

  • Knowledge of Java, SQL, XML and web technologies.
  • Familiarity with key open source Java frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate.
  • Competence in using key supporting software, such as version control and issue tracker systems.

It would be nice but not required for you to have:

  • Confidence working with Linux and MySQL.
  • Experience with any of the following technologies: Jasper Reports, Groovy, Ant, Jetty, FreeMarker.
  • Experience working with any warehouse management system or e-commerce platforms.

Compensation

The compensation package offered will be competitive, subject to your own experience. It includes 33 days holiday (inc. national holidays) and a contributory pension.

Training

A full, structured training programme will provide a detailed introduction into the OrderFlow architecture, technologies and support processes that we use. The training will be based in the Woodbridge development office. The training programme is expected to last 10 to 12 weeks, depending upon progress.
